Globe-trotting banking technologist appears to have settled down, in London

What’s the best place for a career on the technology side of banking? Is it in a major financial hub like London or New York? Is it in an off-piste but still mature market like Japan? Or is it in an offshoring hub like Poland? Well… Why not all?

Jamie Pizzorno joined Deutsche Bank in London last week, as a managing director and head of data management and transformation. He joined Deutsche from Standard Chartered, where he was head of cybersecurity change, based in Warsaw.

Pizzorno has been on quite a journey throughout his career. From an internship during his masters at Goldman Sachs in Tokyo, he started his career in New York at NTT DOCOMO, a Japanese telecommunications firm. He then spent 18 years at Goldman, across Japan, New York, and London, where he was before leaving for Singapore for Standard Chartered, before later leaving for Warsaw.

Pizzorno “writes” many of his LinkedIn posts with emojis and “it’s not X, it’s Y” sentence structures. Some of his posts are even rallying against the ethics of AI. Pizzorno is a significant advocate of diversity causes, especially LGBT ones. He was a shortlisted Inspirational Role Model of the Year at the European Diversity Awards and once claimed to suffer from Long Covid.
