Goodbye to Francisco Oliveira, friend of SocGen (and BNP Paribas)

Goodbye Chico

Francisco Oliveira has ridden off into the French banking sunset and after suddenly disappearing from BNP Paribas on Tuesday evening in September two years ago, he has now disappeared from SocGen too.

Oliveira didn't respond to various efforts to unearth his whereabouts. Nor did SocGen. But SocGen has published something saying that Oliveira has decided to "pursue other opportunities" and that an immediate replacement has been found in the form of Hatem Mustapha, who's been at SocGen for over two decades and was helpfully available.

Oliveira was SocGen's co-head of global markets and head of fixed income. He arrived in early 2025 with a mandate to urgently expand SocGen's fixed income business. An "ambitious expansion" was planned, with particular ambitions in flow trading.

SocGen reported its results yesterday. Fixed income trading revenues fell 11% year-on-year in the second quarter.

Now Oliveira, also known by the affectionate name of Chico, will be  expanding into other areas. He is not the only man to come and then go again at SocGen. John Estrada, who joined from Credit Suisse as the global head of FX in March 2024 and left in January 2026, had a brief sojourn there too.
