UBS hired a rockstar to lead one of its US sales teams

It's said that you have to be an interesting person to get into finance. Financiers (who have the time for it) certainly have side gigs or histories as Olympians, and it’s something that banks recruit for. Others, it seems, are rockstars in their spare time.

Christopher Leamy joined UBS earlier this month as head of the firm’s structured product sales for the Americas. Leamy joined the Swiss bank from Bank of America, where he spent just three years as an executive director.

Leamy has a hell of a side hustle going on. He’s a relatively popular rock musician, releasing music since at least 2014, some of which was professionally produced. He seems to have relaxed a bit on the music in recent years, but still has 13k monthly listeners on Spotify. One of his songs, “To The Bone”, has 1.8m streams as of time of writing.

Leamy, a Chicago native, started an initiative in 2015 called #HePlaysForMe, busking for the homeless of New York while still a trader at Morgan Stanley. “Chris talks to me, I tell him about my personal issues and he asks me if I'm okay and if I can assist him with anything,” Hassan Ali, a participant in the initiative, told PEOPLE in 2016.

UBS declined to comment. Leamy did not respond to a request for comment.
