Blackstone's head of APAC recruiting has defected to Goldman Sachs

It's not just bankers who have exit opportunities in private equity; the recruiters that hire them do as well. Vikas Shetty took his exit a year ago when he joined Blackstone in Hong Kong but, just 16 months later, he's back in banking.

Shetty has joined Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong as an MD and head of recruiting for Goldman Sachs Asia Pacific. He was most recently head of APAC talent acquisition for Blackstone. The firm has ramped up its hiring in the region in recent years; Bloomberg reported in January that APAC headcount in its private wealth team has doubled over the past two years.

Shetty previously worked in recruiting across various banks including Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank. His last role before Blackstone was at JPMorgan, where he was APAC lead for front office recruiting.

In addition to bankers, Shetty helped grow the asset management teams in his previous banks. Goldman will presumably be happy about this; Goldman Sachs Asset Management has been lauded as one of the fastest growing divisions in the bank by CEO David Solomon.

Goldman and Blackstone are both rising fast in Asia. A study from Broadridge found that both firms were in the top 10 asset management firms in Asia in 2026. Blackstone rose three places to seventh while Goldman Sachs entered the top 10 at 9th.
