London | Hybrid Working | Executive Leadership Opportunity
Are you an experienced investment or credit risk leader looking for a role where your judgement, influence and expertise can genuinely shape strategic decision-making?
We are partnering with a highly respected financial institution seeking a Managing Director, Financial Risk to provide independent oversight and challenge across a substantial portfolio of debt and equity investments. This is a rare opportunity to join the senior leadership team and play a key role in ensuring sustainable growth, disciplined risk-taking and long-term portfolio resilience.
The Opportunity
This role sits at the heart of the organisation's risk framework, acting as a trusted adviser to the Chief Risk Officer, Executive Committee and Board on financial risk matters. The successful candidate will lead a team of experienced risk professionals while helping to shape the future direction of the financial risk function.
A Strong Investment Risk Focus
Investment risk is a critical component of this position.
You will provide independent challenge and oversight across a broad range of debt and equity investment activities, including venture capital, structured finance, securitisations and other complex investments. You'll review underwriting standards, valuation approaches, financial models, portfolio concentrations and downside scenarios, ensuring investment decisions remain aligned to risk appetite and long-term strategic objectives.
This role also includes participation in key investment and valuation committees, where your insight and perspective will directly influence investment outcomes.
What You'll Bring
We're interested in speaking with leaders who combine strong technical expertise with a collaborative and supportive leadership style.
You may come from a bank, investment manager, development finance institution, private markets investor or similar environment and will likely have:
• Significant experience in investment risk and/or credit risk management.
• Deep understanding of debt and equity investment products.
• Experience assessing complex and illiquid investments across multiple market cycles.
• Strong knowledge of financial analysis, valuation methodologies and portfolio risk management.
• A track record of providing credible challenge to senior stakeholders while building positive partnerships.
• Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Confidence engaging with Executive Committees, Boards and senior investment professionals.
Why Apply?
This organisation recognises that talent comes from many different backgrounds and experiences. Applications are welcomed from individuals who may not meet every requirement but believe they can bring value to the role.
The business actively supports flexible and hybrid working, enabling people to balance professional and personal commitments. They are also open to speaking with professionals returning to the workforce following a career break and welcome the diverse perspectives and experience that returners can bring.
