Standard Chartered has made another senior digital banking hire in Singapore. Sandiip Saravanan joined the bank earlier this month from Accenture as director for digital strategy, according to his LinkedIn profile.
His move follows that of Yvonne Tan, who joined Stan Chart in January from Facebook as an executive director for strategic partnerships, digital channels and data analytics, within corporate, commercial and institutional banking (CCIB).
Brick-and-mortar banks in Singapore are hiring digital banking talent to counter the threat from the country’s four newly licensed virtual banks, which are launching next year and are already hiring. As we reported yesterday, for example, OCBC hired Gary Wong from Grab as head of digital payments.
Saravanan worked for Accenture in Singapore for three years, latterly as a strategy manager, and was focused on digital strategy for finance sector clients.
His hire underlines Standard Chartered’s penchant for hiring strategists and consultants in Singapore, the office where it formulates many of its global business plans. The Asia-focused bank recruited Pierre Paoli from Boston Consulting as head of its strategic initiatives unit for CCIB, for example. It’s also taken on IBM consultant Sushil Anand as head of computational and digital advisory for wealth management.
Saravanan started his career at the Singapore Economic Development Board in 2011 and then worked in a strategy role for communications consultancy WATATAWA between 2013 and 2015.
