Manager Emerging Technology

The Emerging Technology team's purpose is to "Accelerate the discovery, commercialisation and adoption of new and emerging technology-led innovations across the Group".
As part of the CIO for Technology team, reporting to the Group Executive Enterprise Services and Chief Information Officer, the Emerging Technology team helps to accelerate and drive the delivery of the Group's technology strategy through a portfolio of innovation initiatives and experiments with new and emerging technologies.
The Emerging Technology team engages and collaborates with an innovation ecosystem comprising of the Group's technology partners, start-ups, academic institutions, venture capitalists and consulting houses. This enables the team to identify and understand the latest technologies, and canvas for opportunities in which these technologies may address complex problem spaces across the Group at scale.
As a Manager within the Emerging Technology team you will support and lead the development and delivery of a range of technology-led innovation initiatives across the CBA Group.
We engage and collaborate with an ecosystem of the Group's technology partners, start-ups, academic institutions, venture capitalists and consulting houses. This enables the team to identify and understand the latest tech, and canvas for opportunities in which these technologies may address complex problem spaces across the Group at scale. Your Responsibilities:
You will be expected to perform the following tasks in a manner consistent with CBA's Values of Care, courage and Commitment.
Leverage the Emerging Technology Innovation Process (aligned to ISO 56002 Innovation Management Systems) to identify, design, develop, mobilise, execute and close out a portfolio of innovation initiatives. Lead and support others in taking a hypothesis led approach to breaking down and solving problems. Support with identifying opportunities across the Group where the Emerging Technology Team can support. Understand and make strategic recommendations for the Group based on learnings and outcomes achieved from the innovation initiatives the team has delivered.
Prepare high quality written and visual content across a variety of different mediums including: PowerPoint, Word and Emails. Structure effective communications which take complex concepts or problems and articulates them in a way that is simple and easy to understand. Develop logical storylines to communicate recommendations and the outcomes of analysis. Deliver messages with impact in a variety of different forums including e.g. Project Steering Groups, Executive Committees etc.
Build and develop effective working relationships with a broad range of internal stakeholders across the Group. Build and develop relationships with a range of external parties including: Service Integration partners, Consultants, Venture Capital firms, Academia and the Start-up community.
Delivery and Operations
Prioritise own workload and the work of others in line with team priorities, including raising blockers and supporting the team in resolving issues and identifying the next best action. Understand the process behind how the team funds initiatives and champions the effective management of team finances. Lead in Project Management and delivery of innovation initiatives from end-to-end e.g. from sourcing and procurement with new vendors to managing teams across the Group involved in project delivery.
Understand and have a keen interest in external technology trends and their potential impacts to the Bank. Support the team in collectively developing tech acumen through connecting with Thought Leaders and encouraging learning and development.

- All CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks.
- Experience in Banking and/or IT companies in a strategic, technical or commercial role .
- Experience in a consultant or strategic advisory function. Experience in effective and disciplined Project Management. Keen interest technology and innovation.
- Graduate level qualifications excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong strategic and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Strong leadership capabilities with excellence in driving results and delivering customer satisfaction.
Being part of the Emerging Technology team provides great opportunities to engage and work with stakeholders across Enterprise Services and the broader Group including Retail, Business and Institutional partners. You will also work with a number of external parties from around the world including banks, Venture Capitalists, start-ups, Incubators and Accelerators.
This team is expected to provide thought leadership regarding the future of Enterprise Services and how the organisation needs to transform to support The Group's Technology Strategy.
