The role

As the Head of Credit Risk, Financial Risk Specialist Teams (FRST) you will deploy team members to support APRA with specialist retail and non-retail credit risk advice. This includes identifying, monitoring and mitigating entity and industry risks by providing insights and using forward looking analytics to inform risk based, supervisory judgements and strategic decisions and to support policy development.

The team

Financial Risk Specialist Teams are the centre of excellence for financial risk analysis for banking, within specialised teams, and also act as broader centres of excellence for the other divisions. They provide advice to frontline supervisors to enable them to fulfil their supervisory function. This involves offsite analysis of data and information, regular contact with the supervised institutions as well as a continual program of onsite reviews and policy development support.

Key responsibilities
  • Sets strategic direction and business plan of the Credit Risk team, consistent with the divisional business plan and APRA Corporate Plan;
  • Providing specialist technical advice on credit risk related matters and ensuring the team maintains a deep level of expertise in retail, non-retail credit risk and current and emerging issues in credit risk management more broadly, both domestically and internationally;
  • Oversee the production of analytics and horizontal insights;
  • Providing specialist input into APRA's prudential policy, data collections and reporting in relation to credit risk;
  • Provide subject matter expertise in support of senior leadership, internal governance committees and other internal and external stakeholders;
  • Contributes to branch and divisional leadership activities, priorities workflow and manages resources accordingly; and
  • Models inclusive leadership behaviours and instilling an open culture where divergent views are shared and respected.

About you
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the field of credit risk;
  • Demonstrates expertise across people, project and resource management;
  • Developing strategic leadership toolkit, relationship building, negotiation and influencing capability at senior level;
  • Ability to scan a breadth of sources to identify, raise emerging trends and identify usage within organisational context;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify strategic issues and develop and implement appropriate solutions;
  • Strong personal integrity and an intuitive understanding of what is reasonable and prudent business practice;
  • Ability to establish and maintain sound working relationships with peers, team members and external stakeholders in a professional team environment; and
  • Professional qualifications in relevant field or equivalent experience;
